~ Finnish Helena Tynell, Riihimäen Lasi, Pikku Matti, Small Matti Glass Decanter ~
Helena Tynell (1918–2016) was a notable Finnish glass designer. She designed many classics for the Finnish ‘Riihimäen Lasi’ glassworks.
Some of the most well-known objects are the sculptural decanters produced between 1969 – 1971.
This particular decanter is based on the character ‘Pikku Matti’ (Small Matti) from the Finnish author Zacharias Topelius’ children story of the same name.
There were four characters from this series: Isoäiti (Grandma), Isoisä (Grandpa), Pikku Matti (Small Matti) and Maaherra (Governor).
This version is in blue glass with a clear glass stopper.
