Helena Tynell (1918–2016) was a notable Finnish glass designer. She designed many classics for the Finnish ‘Riihimäen Lasi’ glassworks.
Some of the most well-known objects are the sculptural decanters produced between 1969 – 1971.
This particular decanter is based on the character ‘Maaherra’ (Governor) from the Finnish author Zacharias Topelius’ children story ‘Pikku Matti’.
There were four characters from this series: Isoäiti (Grandma), Isoisä (Grandpa), Pikku Matti (Small Matti) and Maaherra (Governor).
This version is in indigo blue glass with a clear glass stopper.

The decanter has a height of 27cm (10 ¾ inches), a width of 11cm (4 ¼ inches) and a depth of 6.5cm (2 ½ inches).
