This is a 1907 Pattern bayonet which would have likely been used during the WW1 period. This particular bayonet is the Mark 1 which features the original hooked quillon. This was originally intended for hooking an enemy’s blade to pary. Eventually, it was deemed that the curved quillon impractical and therefore replaced with a simpler design. This is an extremely rare design as very few were made in comparison to the Mark 2. 197,000 Mark 1 bayonets were made as opposed to the 1,600,000 Mark 2’s. This particular bayonet was made by Sanderson – of which only 22,000 were made. Additionally, any bayonets with quillons that were sent for repair had their quillons removed.
