Excellent Schmidt Rubin M 1889 Straight Pull Rifle Bolt Action 7.5 mm

This is a very good example of a Swiss, Schmidt Rubin Rifle Model 1889.

Officially adopted in 1889, chambered for the 7.5mm x 53.5 round, a unique looking rifle, with a straight pull action, very advanced for its time.

The rifle is serial numbered '114960' is stamped on all its major components. All numbers are matching.

The Swiss logo is stamped on the barrel, receiver and stock.

The piece comes with its original sling, muzzle cover and two ammo clips.

All the mechanics are fully functional.

~ The Schmidt-Rubin ~

The Schmidt–Rubin rifles were a series of Swiss Army service rifles in use between 1889 and 1958. The Schmidt-Rubin was the first straight-pull bolt action service rifle of any nation .
The rifle takes its name from the designer of its action, Colonel Rudolf Schmidt, and the designer of its ammunition, Colonel Eduard Rubin.
The straight-pull action relied upon an actuating rod, set in a channel to the right of the breech, to rotate the bolt though a helical channel cut in the bolt sleeve.

Twin locking lugs were positioned midway through the bolt sleeve, locking the bolt into the receiver directly above the trigger. This action allows the operator to eject the spent cartridge in one motion, and push the bolt forward to chamber a round, cock the striker, and lock the action.

Service rifle competition between the various major military powers proved that the Schmidt Rubin was the most accurate of all of the classic, smokeless powder, bolt action service rifles.

The rifle is 51 ½ inches (131 cm) long and weighs 4.7 kg.

~ Condition ~

The rifle is in excellent condition with minimum usage.
