Produced in East Germany from 1959 to 1965 the Modell 47 knife bayonet was designed for use with the 7.62 mm Maschinenpistole Kalashnikow (MPiK) AK47 assault rifle. It was a replica of the Russian 6X2 bayonet, the East German Modell 47 is notable for its black plastic grip scales, electropenciled serial number on the crosspiece, and a gray web belt hanger with a glove fastener.
The Modell 47 features an unusual grip and a partial second muzzle ring. This design arose because the original AK47 was not intended to accommodate a bayonet, making the bayonet a later addition.
