*East German AKM Type II Bayonet G36 Conversion and Scabbard. 1996.*

Knife bayonet for use with the 5.56 mm. NATO caliber Heckler & Koch G36 assault rifle. This G36 bayonet was a 1996 modification of East German Modell 74 (AKM Type II) bayonets. The original muzzle-ring was cut away and a new, large diameter muzzle ring welded in place. The painted black finish was then touched up and a newly designed fabric hanger was attached to make it compatible to the current German field gear. This was undertaken on a trial basis in an attempt to make use of the large stocks. This attempt to re-purpose old surplus stock was never officially accepted and they were only produced in limited number.

The serial number 347544 is written on by electric pencil on the grip. Minty bright finished plain sawback blade measuring 144mm with bowie tip and opening for wire cutter device. Black plastic grip with slot in pommel and strap opening. It has the correct scabbard without a serial number. Scabbard carries usual reference 2 1946/5.

*Condition*
The blade is clean and sharp. Button works well and scabbard fits snugly. There are minor scratches and signs of wear and tear across the grip and scabbard. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
