*Cold War, 1st Pattern AK-47 Bayonet with Scabbard, Serial No. N3814*

A scarce and very well-preserved  1st Pattern AK-47 bayonet complete with its correct blackened steel scabbard and original canvas retaining strap. Measuring 31cm overall with a 20.5cm spear-point blade, this early pattern example features the distinctive single fuller and polished cutting edge, with blued finish carried across the hilt and scabbard.

The hilt retains its pressed steel grip plates, secured with domed screws, and the muzzle ring remains crisp and correctly contoured. The scabbard is finished in deep blued steel and fitted with the early canvas strap, secured by a “WUK” marked snap fastener, a detail often encountered on Warsaw Pact webbing of the 1950s.

This example is clearly serial numbered “N3814” to the crossguard, consistent with Soviet issue practice, and showing matching honest service wear across bayonet and scabbard.

Historical Note:
The 1st Pattern AK bayonet (introduced c. 1951) was the very first dedicated bayonet made for the original milled-receiver AK-47. Unlike later multipurpose wire-cutter types, this was a straightforward fighting knife, reflecting Soviet doctrine of the early Cold War. Its service life was short, being replaced by the 2nd Pattern around 1959, making intact survivors increasingly scarce. These saw wide distribution to Soviet forces and satellite states, particularly in Eastern Europe and early Cold War theatres.

*Condition*
This bayonet remains in excellent condition overall. The blade is clean and bright with light runner marks only, retaining its original profile. The hilt shows a fine blued finish with very little wear, grips are tight with no movement. The scabbard retains much of its original blackened finish with only minor surface marks consistent with use. Canvas strap is intact, though shows expected age fraying. Press studs remain fully functional. The serial number to the crossguard is crisp and legible. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
