~ Circa 1890 Prussian Infantry Garde Officers Pickelhaube ~
Here we have an absolutely excellent example of a pickelhaube worn by the officers of the Prussian Infantry Garde Korps ( life guard regiments).
This helmet appears to be of the Eigentums or private purchase type due to certain non standard parts and the quality of workmanship and the manufacturers mark, being stamped Carl Henkel of Bielfeld.
The skull of the helmet is black leather, the inside and the rim brown. The wappen, spike and edges are all manufactured of German silver.
The wappen bears the very distinct Garde type eagle with the swept wings and the star of a guards regiment common across Europe.
The brass and leather chinstrap and both the state and the imperial cockades are present.
The pickelhaube is larger than commonly seen.
~ Dimensions ~
The pickelhaube is 10 inches ( 25.5 cm) from peak to tail.
The pickelhaube is 7 inches (18 cm) wide.
The pickelhaube weighs 595g.
~ Condition ~
There are some cosmetic scuffs to the leather and signs of patina on the brass.
The German silver is showing some signs of age and tarnish but overall is in brilliant condition.
