The fine painting depicts the entrance to Portsmouth Harbour with Victoria Pier jutting out from the Square Tower, in Old Portsmouth. Victoria Pier, built in 1842 and the first one in Portsmouth, was used for passenger steamer departures. The conservatory there has long since gone. HMS St Vincent is seen in the distance when she was still afloat in the harbour.

It is signed C. Allan and is unframed.

The oil painting is 23 cm (9 inches) wide and 15 cm (6 inches) tall.
