The piece is made from the tip of a rams horn, rounded off. It has a hinged silver mounted horn lid, backed with cork, with an engraved border and a Scottish thistle as well as initialled cartouche.
A note inside says the rim is engraved 'William Bisset Stermout(?) Field 1828. The Bissets of Beauly are an old Scottish family, originally from France.

There is a crack to the lid, otherwise fine.
