~ Chinese Qing Dynasty Nephrite Jade Carving Mythical Chi-lin Creature #2 ~

A lovely hand carved nephrite jade figure of a mythical creature, dating to the Qing Dynasty era.

This mythical creature goes by different names in literature: Bixie - a kind of unicorn with rearward pointing horn, Chi-lin – A creature with a lion head, wings and bifurcated tail. In Cantonese it is ‘Pei Yao’.

The animal is regarded as the protector of the house and family.

The creature is crouching, with horns directed to the rear.

The nephrite jade is a light green in colour with brown patches and variegated colours.

One has a length of 4.5 inches (11.4 cm), a depth of 2 inches (5.2 cm) & a height of 1.75 inches (4.5 cm).

It weighs 370g
