~ Cased Pair Of 1922 Silver Gilt Scissors For The Launch Of SS Galleon ~

A pair of launch scissors for the SS 'Galleon' made by Mappin & Webb of Sheffield.

They are inscribed 'Presented to Mrs E Edwards Cochrane & Sons Selby at the launch of the SS 'Galleon' Nov. 21st, 1922'.

The scissors have gilt plated handles and come in their original fitted case.

~ SS Galleon ~

The steam cargo ship Galleon was a single screw, schooner rigged, steamship built by at Selby by Messrs. Cochrane and Sons for the Galleon Shipping Company of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. She was launched in 1922 and commissioned in 1923. She was 180 foot long and has a gross weight of 720 tons.

She was lost with all hands on a passage from Blyth to London on or about the 25th of November 1925 due to heavy seas.
