The compass is of brass construction with a black and silvered dial. To the reverse is the makers stamp of 'F-L' and the date '1917'. 'R E', presumably for Royal Engineers, is scratched into the outer ring. The case is of brown leather and has its strap.

The piece is in good order.

The badge is 5 cm (2 inches) in diameter.
