A fantastic original hand-painted cartoon in watercolour by the cartoonist LB Martin.

LB Martin is one of a number of artists famous for their comical artwork which was used in newspapers and particularly for seaside postcards during the post-war era.

The cartoon show a couple on holiday by the sea with the tag line “Extraordinary how the fish always take their holidays the same time as I do”.

The cartoon is mounted in a simple, glazed wood frame. The back of the frame has a glazed window showing the back of the painting, stamped with LB Martins initials and address and a hand-written inscription, dated 1948.

The piece measures 19cm (7 ½ inches) by 30cm (11 ¾ inches).

It weighs 1.55 Kg

~ Condition ~

There is a small smudge in the margin and a stain on the reverse where the inscription is but the cartoon itself is in great condition, the colours still vivid.

The frame is in good order.
