~ c1800 British Royal Navy Blue And Gilt Midshipmans Dirk ~

A fine British Royal Navy midshipman's dirk, circa 1800s (Battle of Trafalgar period).

It has a straight double-edged diamond-section blade with etched, blued and gilt foliate decoration and trophies of war, flattened gilt cast brass reverse quillion, gilt pressed metal collar and carved marine ivory grip.

The brass scabbard has engraved foliate decoration and twin suspension rings.

~ Condition ~

Please refer to the images for the condition. Most of the gilt remains on the blade, the bluing is quite worn. The grip is excellent, complete, just a short hairline crack by the guard.

~ Dimensions ~

The dirk is 25.5cm (10 inches) in total length with a 16.5cm (6.5 inches) blade.
