*British, WWII, The 1939–1945 Star Campaign Medal – Original Full-Size Medal with Ribbon*

An original and attractive full-size example of the British Second World War 1939–1945 Star campaign medal, correctly suspended from its original ribbon of dark blue, red, and light blue vertical stripes. This iconic six-pointed bronze star was awarded for operational service during the Second World War and remains one of the most recognisable British campaign decorations of the period.

The obverse features the crowned Royal Cypher of King George VI (“GRI VI”) within a central circlet inscribed “THE 1939–1945 STAR”, all set upon the classic six-point star form. The reverse is plain, as issued, with many examples left unnamed in accordance with official British practice. The medal retains its original suspension ring and ribbon, showing good honest age and service wear.

History Note:
Instituted in July 1943, the 1939–1945 Star was awarded to personnel of the British and Commonwealth forces for operational service between 3 September 1939 and 2 September 1945. Qualification generally required six months of operational service for Army personnel, with differing criteria for Air Force and Naval service depending on theatre and operational conditions. It was often worn alongside the Atlantic Star, Africa Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, and Defence and War Medals depending on service history.

This is a classic and highly collectible WWII campaign medal, ideal for medal groups, militaria collections, or research into a family service history.

*Condition*
Condition is good overall with age-related wear, light surface rubbing and patina to the bronze finish, and expected wear to the ribbon including minor fraying and old stitch marks to the top edge from previous mounting. Reverse shows typical oxidation and service patina. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
