*British, WWII, Royal Navy HMS Swiftsure, Sweetheart Brooch, Enamel & Gilt*

A fine WWII-era Royal Navy sweetheart brooch for HMS Swiftsure, measuring 4.8cm x 2.6cm. The gilt and enamel badge displays the ship’s crest: a golden wyvern on a pale blue field, within a rope border and surmounted by a naval crown. Beneath, a blue enamel scroll bears the ship’s name “H.M.S. Swiftsure”. The brooch is fitted with a horizontal safety-pin style fastener to the reverse.

Historical Note:
HMS Swiftsure was a Minotaur-class light cruiser, launched in 1943 and commissioned into the Royal Navy in 1944. She joined the British Pacific Fleet in 1945, operating against Japanese-held territories during the closing stages of the Second World War. After the war, Swiftsure continued in service during the early Cold War period before being placed in reserve during the 1950s.

Sweetheart brooches such as this were privately purchased items, often presented by sailors to wives, fiancées, or family members as keepsakes and symbols of service. Gilt and enamel designs were popular during the wartime period and immediately afterwards.

*Condition*
The brooch remains in good condition, with bright gilt finish and largely intact enamel detail. Minor rubbing to the gilt and some surface wear consistent with age. The fastening pin shows light corrosion but remains intact and fully functional. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
