*British, WWII, Royal Air Force Sweetheart Brooch, Silver & Enamel, Bow and RAF Wings*

A beautiful WWII RAF enamel sweetheart brooch — a touching symbol of wartime love and loyalty.

A fine Second World War Royal Air Force sweetheart brooch, measuring 4.2cm wide by 2cm tall. This delicate piece features a vivid cobalt-blue enamel bow, from which is suspended a finely detailed pair of RAF pilot’s wings, enamelled in sky blue with the crowned RAF monogram at the centre. The reverse is stamped "SILVER" and retains its original period pin fitting.

Sweetheart brooches were treasured tokens of loyalty and affection, often gifted by serving airmen to their wives, fiancées or girlfriends during wartime. This example is particularly attractive for its colourful combination of enamels and elegant design.

Historical Note:
Sweetheart jewellery emerged during the First World War and became especially popular in WWII. With so many RAF personnel serving overseas, these pieces acted as intimate reminders of loved ones. Designs incorporating wings, crowns and enamel bows were fashionable during the 1940s, symbolising both pride in service and personal devotion. Silver and enamel examples, like this brooch, were often produced by British jewellers and sold through jewellers’ shops or military outfitters.
