*British, WWII, Royal Air Force Sweetheart Brooch, Mother of Pearl*

A charming WWII RAF sweetheart brooch in mother of pearl – a delicate memento of wartime service and devotion.

A finely hand-carved WWII Royal Air Force sweetheart brooch in mother of pearl, measuring 3.7cm high by 3cm wide. The badge depicts the RAF monogram within a laurel wreath, surmounted by the King’s Crown, and is fitted with a brass pin to the reverse. Lightweight and delicately worked, this piece was designed as a keepsake to be worn by a wife, fiancée, or family member of an RAF serviceman during the war.

Historical Note
Sweetheart brooches were immensely popular during both World Wars, serving as symbols of pride and affection for loved ones serving overseas. Mother of pearl examples such as this were often produced in the Near and Far East, where local craftsmen supplied servicemen with affordable mementoes to send home. The King’s Crown firmly dates this to the WWII era, when the RAF was at the forefront of Britain’s war effort.

*Condition*
The brooch is in good overall condition for its age, with crisp mother of pearl carving and the RAF monogram clearly legible. The brass pin and hinge show age-related tarnish and verdigris, but remain intact and functional. Minor natural surface irregularities to the shell, as expected with hand-carved mother of pearl. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
