*British, WWII, RAF Warrant Officer, Sweetheart Brooch,  Gilt & Enamel*

A WWII RAF sweetheart brooch in a gilt and enamel “Warrant Officer style” design – a wearable link to the wartime home front.

A charming WWII period Royal Air Force sweetheart brooch, gilt metal with red and blue enamel detail. The design features the RAF eagle with outstretched wings and laurel wreath, surmounted by a King’s Crown, with “RAF” picked out in blue enamel beneath. The layout closely echoes the Warrant Officer and officer’s cap badge designs, adapted here for the sweetheart jewellery market. Fitted with a period pin-back fastening to the reverse. Measurements: 3.7 cm wide x 3.5 cm tall

History Note:
Sweetheart brooches were popular gifts during both World Wars, purchased by RAF personnel or their families and worn with pride by loved ones on the home front. This example, borrowing elements from the official Warrant Officer and officer’s badges, illustrates the way jewellers adapted service insignia into decorative jewellery. Such pieces offered families a tangible connection to those serving overseas.

*Condition*
The brooch retains much of its gilt finish with areas of age wear. Some enamel losses to the crown and central “RAF” scroll. Reverse pin present with light tarnish, fastening intact. Overall, a good and evocative wartime example. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
