*British, WWII, RAF Sweetheart Brooch, Silver & Enamel Pilot’s Wings*

A fine WWII period Royal Air Force sweetheart brooch in the form of pilot’s wings. The brooch is crafted in silver with white enamelled wings and a central blue enamel roundel bearing the RAF monogram, surmounted by a red enamel King’s Crown. Reverse impressed “SILVER” and “MADE IN ENGLAND.” Secured with a horizontal pin fitting. Measuring 5.4 cm wide by 1.9 cm tall.

Historical Note:
Sweetheart brooches were highly popular during both World Wars, gifted by serving men to wives, fiancées, or mothers as tokens of affection and service pride. This example, in the style of pilot’s brevet wings, dates securely to WWII due to the presence of the King’s Crown (used until 1953). Such enamel and silver brooches were widely produced by British jewellers during the war, with patriotic motifs helping to maintain morale on the Home Front.

*Condition*
The brooch retains good enamel colour across the crown, roundel, and wings, though some light surface wear is present, consistent with age. The reverse shows age-related tarnish and patination, with clear “SILVER” and “MADE IN ENGLAND” marks visible. The pin fitting remains intact and functional. A well-preserved WWII RAF sweetheart item with strong eye appeal. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
