A WWII-era British Siebe Gorman & Co diver’s knife, approximately 33.9 cm overall, featuring a 19.7 cm double-edged steel blade with a pronounced medial ridge for strength. The blade bears the etched “SIEBE GORMAN & Co.” mark at the ricasso. The black Bakelite grip is turned and ribbed, fitted with a polished brass guard and pommel.
The knife is housed in a push-in scabbard also typical of Siebe Gorman & Co Ltd. Made from corrosion-resistant and non-magnetic brass, it was well suited for underwater operations, avoiding interference with navigation or equipment.
Historical Note: Siebe Gorman & Co of London were the primary suppliers of standard diving equipment to the Royal Navy during WWII. In the mid‑1940s, non‑magnetic tinned brass push‑in scabbards were issued to avoid interference with navigation and mines. These components are seldom seen today and are characteristic of the very late WWII to early post‑war period
*Condition* The knife is in very good service-used condition throughout. The double-edged blade retains its full profile with a well-defined medial ridge, showing light patination and surface oxidation consistent with age and use. The SIEBE GORMAN & Co. etching at the ricasso remains clear and legible. The turned black composition grip is intact, retaining a glossy surface with minimal handling wear. Brass guard and pommel exhibit a pleasing age patina with no structural damage. The scabbard, of flat tinned brass push-in type, is complete and structurally sound, with the tinned finish showing expected service wear and light surface marks from operational use, but free from significant dents or distortion. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
