*British, WW2, Royal Navy HMS Enterprise, Gilt & Enamel Sweetheart Brooch*

A striking gilt and enamel HMS Enterprise sweetheart brooch – a fine Royal Navy keepsake from a distinguished cruiser of the Second World War.

A finely detailed Royal Navy sweetheart brooch for HMS Enterprise, measuring 5.5 cm x 2.5 cm. The brooch is gilt metal with deep blue enamel to the central crest, depicting a golden lion passant guardant against a star-studded field, surmounted by the Naval crown and with a scroll inscribed H.M.S. ENTERPRISE. The reverse is plain with a simple horizontal pin fitting.

Historical Note:
HMS Enterprise was an Emerald-class light cruiser, launched in 1919 and commissioned in 1926. She served with distinction during the Second World War, taking part in the Norwegian campaign, Atlantic and Arctic convoy escorts, and later supporting the D-Day landings as part of Operation Neptune in 1944.

Sweetheart brooches were popular keepsakes purchased privately by sailors and gifted to loved ones on the home front. Sweetheart brooches such as this were worn with pride on the home front, symbolising a personal connection with a serving sailor. They are today prized both as items of naval history and as poignant mementoes of wartime service.

*Condition*
The brooch shows age-related wear to the gilt finish, with some dulling and minor surface abrasions. The enamel retains good colour and clarity, though with slight loss to the blue field. The pin and clasp remain present and functional, with light age patina and traces of verdigris to the reverse.  This example retains excellent period character and would make a fine addition to any naval or sweetheart brooch collection. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
