Inside the coat the original label is still present and is bright and legible. "Great Coats Dismounted, 1940 Pattern, Size No. 5, Height 5ft 7ins. to 5ft 8ins. Breast 37ins. to 39ins. Lottery & Co. 1942."

45cm shoulder to shoulder. 109cm back length to base of collar, 62cm outside sleeve length.

The Model 1940 Dismounted Greatcoat was issued to all infantry soldiers due to its longer length compared to the mounted version for cavalry and mounted troops. Addressing a significant problem with the 1939 pattern, which was too tight over equipment, the Model 1940 featured improvements. It is 2 inches shorter than the 1939 Pattern, has a warmer lining, and a stepped collar that is ¾” narrower. The coat can be buttoned across in inclement weather, and its doubled-breasted buttons provide better protection against wind and rain. Inverted box pleats in the back offer flexibility, allowing the coat to expand over any equipment for a more comfortable fit. It includes two large hand-warmer pockets and is made from the standard khaki heavy serge blanket wool used throughout World War II.

The jacket's front has original brass King's Crown Royal Artillery buttons and small brass buttons to the half belt (only one instead of three) and the rear vent. Chin guard still present inside.
