*British, WW2, Royal Air Force (RAF), Signaller’s Brevet Wing Sweetheart Brooch, Silver & Enamel*
A very scarce original post-1941 Royal Air Force Signaller’s brevet sweetheart brooch, finely crafted in sterling silver. The single wing is modelled in relief, with the central “S” beautifully inlaid in pale turquoise translucent enamel, encircled by a gingery-brown enamel laurel wreath. The reverse is impressed “STERLING SIL”, confirming quality silver manufacture. Measuring 5.2 cm wide by 1.8 cm tall, with its original functional pin fitting to the reverse.
Historical Note: The RAF Signaller’s brevet was officially introduced in 1941, denoting trained Wireless Operators and later Air Gunners who had qualified as Air Signallers. Sweetheart brooches of this type were privately purchased and gifted to wives, fiancées, and family, often as cherished keepsakes worn on civilian dress. Silver and enamel examples were considered superior to the more commonly found base-metal or plain versions, making this a scarce survivor from the wartime period.
*Condition* Enamel remains vibrant with only very light surface wear consistent with age. Silver shows natural toning and patina, with no repairs. The reverse pin and clasp are intact and functional. A well-preserved and highly desirable example. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
