This 1940 brass shell made by RLB - Royal Laboratories, hails from a naval 2-pounder pom-pom quick-fire Mark II gun utilized by the British Navy. The “N” marking denotes its service in Naval operations. Known as the Ordnance QF (Quick-firing) 2-pounder, this 40mm British autocannon, affectionately dubbed the “pom-pom,” served as an anti-aircraft weapon for the Royal Navy. Its name stemmed from the distinctive sound produced by the initial firing of these guns. It’s worth noting that while this QF 2-pounder fired projectiles of the same weight as the 2-pounder used by the British Army in roles such as anti-tank and tank weaponry, they were distinct weapon systems.
