History Note:
This is a classic piece of British Home Front material connected with the wartime National Savings campaign, through which civilians were encouraged to invest in savings certificates, war savings and defence bonds to support the national war effort. The “Lend to Defend” slogan became one of the best-known appeals of the period, and the St George motif gave the badge an unmistakably patriotic and martial character. Toye & Co of London were established makers of badges and insignia, and are encountered on original examples of this pattern.

Condition is good overall for age. The enamel remains bright and attractive, with some light surface wear and minor age-related rubbing to the gilt outlines. The reverse shows age toning and surface oxidation consistent with period storage and use. The original pin and catch are present to the reverse.
