*British, WW2, King George VI 1st Issue, Air Efficiency Award Medal, with Ribbon*

The Air Efficiency Award, was established in 1942. It was awarded for ten years of meritorious service to officers, airmen, and airwomen in the Auxiliary and Volunteer Air Forces of the United Kingdom, as well as the Territorial Air Forces and Air Force Reserves of the Dominions, Indian Empire, Burma, Colonies, and Protectorates.

The original King George VI version featured his effigy in coinage style, surrounded by the inscription "GEORGIVS VI D: G: BR: OMN: REX F: D: IND: IMP:" along the edge. Below the King's neck truncation, the initials "HP" represent the designer, Thomas Humphrey Paget, an English medal and coin designer. The reverse was smooth, bearing the inscription "AIR EFFICIENCY AWARD" in three lines. A silver clasp, featuring an eagle with outstretched wings topped by a crown, accompanied the medal.
