*German, WW2 Era, Nickel-Plated Brass Utility Petrol Lighter, Cylindrical Military Trench Style Lighter, In Original Wartime Wrapper*

A wartime German Utility pattern petrol lighter of cylindrical form, dating to the Second World War period and retaining its original brown wartime paper wrapper. The lighter is constructed from nickel-plated brass and follows the simple austerity design typical of British wartime manufacture.

The body is formed in two sections, with the outer sleeve sliding off to reveal the internal petrol lighter insert. The insert retains its flint wheel striker, wick and cotton packing for the fuel reservoir. The simple domed top and upright flint wheel assembly are characteristic of German wartime petrol lighters produced under the Utility manufacturing scheme during the early 1940s.

Finished in nickel plating over brass, the lighter now displays a naturally aged mottled patina typical of long-stored wartime plated items. The plain cylindrical sleeve, absence of decorative finishing and simple construction reflect the material-saving and manufacturing restrictions of wartime Germany. Many examples were produced without maker’s marks by a range of subcontractors supplying the wartime market, and unmarked examples such as this are commonly encountered.

This example remains wrapped in its original thin brown wartime protective paper wrapping and appears to have been stored for many years without use. We have several examples of these lighters from the same source, all of the same pattern and similar condition though patination may vary. One lighter will be selected at random from the group for dispatch.

Approx. Measurements – Height: 6 cm. Diameter: 2 cm.

*Condition*
The lighter remains in good original condition with an aged nickel-plated finish showing typical mottled patina from long storage. The internal insert with flint wheel and wick is present. The mechanism is untested and may require a new flint and fuel to operate. The lighter is supplied in its original brown wartime paper wrapper, which shows typical creasing and ageing from storage. Multiple similar examples are available and one will be selected at random for dispatch. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
