*British, WW2, Bren Mk II, by Inglis, Dated 1944, with Folding Bipod, Deactivated*
Deactivated Old Spec WW2 Bren Gun MkII. Dated 1944 and manufactured by the Canadian firm Inglis. Serial Number 14T5125 marked on receiver and on lever. Magazine marked with a war arrow, crown over M over M3.
This is a classic WW2 British machine gun. The Bren saw action in virtually every front during WW2. It was used by Allied forces in Europe, Africa and Asia. It would pretty much work in any conditions and was accurate and reliable. This was made at the John Inglis & Co plant in Canada, under a contract signed in 1938 with the British Government to supply 12,000 Brens to the UK and Canada.
The Bren gun was a series of light machine guns (LMG) made by Britain in the 1930s. It was based on the 7.92mm rimless ZB-26 light machine gun made by Ceska Zbrojovka at Brno, Czechoslovakia, but was configured for the standard British .303 rimmed cartridge necessitating the need for the curved magazine. The name “Bren” is derived from the first two letters of Brno and Enfield, the original manufacturers of the Bren. The Bren was officially approved in 1938 and used in various roles until 1992. While best known for its role as the British and Commonwealth forces’ primary infantry LMG in World War II, it was also used in the Korean War and saw service throughout the latter half of the 20th century, including the 1982 Falklands War. Although fitted with a bipod, it could also be mounted on a tripod or be vehicle-mounted.
