*British, WW1–WW2, Miniature Medal Group – British War Medal, Victory Medal & Defence Medal*

A mounted miniature medal group representing a veteran who served during the First World War and later qualified for the Second World War Defence Medal. The group consists of three officially styled miniature medals swing-mounted on a pin-backed bar for wear on civilian attire.

The group includes the British War Medal 1914–1920, the Victory Medal 1914–1919, and the Defence Medal 1939–1945. The British War Medal is struck in silvered metal and bears the left-facing portrait of King George V with the legend “GEORGIVS V BRITT: OMN: REX ET IND: IMP.” The reverse features the classical design of St George on horseback defeating the eagle shield.

The Victory Medal is finished in gilt bronze and displays the winged figure of Victory on the obverse, with the reverse inscribed “THE GREAT WAR FOR CIVILISATION 1914–1919” surrounded by a laurel wreath.

The Defence Medal bears the portrait of King George VI with the legend “GEORGIVS VI D: G: BR: OMN: REX F: D: IND: IMP.” The reverse shows the crowned oak tree flanked by heraldic lions above the inscription “THE DEFENCE MEDAL.”

All three medals are mounted as miniatures, intended for wear at formal occasions such as regimental dinners, commemorative parades, and remembrance events. Miniature groups were typically privately purchased by veterans or their families after the war, allowing the decorations to be worn with evening dress or civilian clothing.

The combination of medals indicates an individual who served during the First World War in a theatre of war (qualifying for the War and Victory Medals) and later rendered non-operational service during the Second World War, qualifying for the Defence Medal. Such groups are commonly associated with older veterans who returned to service in civil defence, the Home Guard, administrative military duties, or other essential wartime roles during the 1939–1945 conflict.

*Condition*
Good overall condition. The medals display light age-related toning and surface wear consistent with miniature examples. Ribbons remain bright and well preserved. The group is neatly mounted on a metal bar with a functioning pin fitting to the reverse. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
