*British, WW1, Royal Air Force, Pilot's Wings, Sweetheart Brooch, Enamelled*
A First World War period Royal Air Force sweetheart brooch, cast in gilded base metal and decorated with red and green enamels. The design features a laurel wreath surmounted by the King’s Crown, the central initials "RAF" picked out in red enamel, flanked by finely detailed outstretched wings. The brooch retains traces of its original gilt finish, the enamels now worn through service and age. To the reverse, a simple pin clasp attachment is present. Dimensions: 6.1 cm wide by 2 cm tall.
*Condition* The brooch shows honest wear and patination consistent with age. Areas of gilding remain visible, with significant enamel loss to the crown and wreath. The red enamel to "RAF" is partially intact. The reverse exhibits a green-brown patina and some surface oxidation. The pin fixing is present . Overall, a fair example, retaining strong period character. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
