The Regiment was officially formed in 1881. During WW1, the South Staffordshire Regiment raised a total of 18 battalions and was awarded 66 battle honors and 3 Victoria Crosses. Its battalions participated in operations on the Western Front, Italy, Gallipoli and Egypt and lost 6,357 men during the course of the war.
