Original Photograph of HM Submarine C31. This photograph originally formed part of the Lou Britton British Submarine Collection, which was acquired by the Royal Navy Submarine Museum, Gosport in 2007.

HMS C31 was a C-class submarine built for the Royal Navy, launched in 1909. Designed for improved speed, it measured 142 feet long, displaced 290 tons (surface), and had a crew of 16. Powered by a 600 bhp Vickers petrol engine (surface) and a 300 hp electric motor (submerged), it reached 13 knots on the surface and 8 knots underwater.
Armed with two 18-inch torpedo tubes, C31 was commissioned in November 1909. While patrolling off Zeebrugge during World War I, she struck a mine on 4 January 1915 and sank with all hands.
