These vases are iconic piece of WW1 trench art. These 1916 2 pounder shells have been made into a pair of vases, each with four curled petal-like edges.

Both shall cases were manufactured by VSM - Vickers, Sons & Maxim, and both cases have the same markings. Each brass shell, dated 1916, is marked 2 PDR 1 with a 1915 dated V.S.M fuse. In 1916 the Vickers 2 pdr gun was primarily used on most of the Royal Navy fleet as an anti aircraft gun. WW2 saw them back in service again with smaller vessels and in ground mounted form.
