*British, Sam Browne Leather Sword Frog, Brass Fittings*

A well-made early 20th-century Sam Browne leather sword frog, manufactured in brown bridle leather with stitched triangular front reinforcement, brass stud, and brass D-ring. The wider upper strap is designed to loop over the officer’s Sam Browne waist belt, while the two narrow adjustable straps secure around the throat and lower ring of the sword scabbard, setting the correct carry angle. Constructed in quality leather typical of private-purchase officer equipment of the period, with all original buckles and keepers present.

Historical Note:
The Sam Browne belt system was officially adopted across the British Army in 1902, replacing older shoulder-slung sword and pistol rigs. Officers purchased their own equipment, which produced a range of high-quality variants such as this frog. The design remained essentially unchanged throughout the Edwardian era, the First World War, and the inter-war years, and continued in use for ceremonial dress. Frogs of this pattern were used with infantry, cavalry, artillery, and staff officers’ swords, including the 1897 infantry sword and 1908/1912 cavalry patterns.
