HMS Glamorgan was a County-class destroyer of the Royal Navy, with a displacement of 5,440 tonnes, and served as a key vessel for the fleet until her decommissioning.
This commissioning book provides an overview of the first two years of HMS Glamorgan, covering the period from October 1966 to October 1968. It details the ship’s construction by Vickers-Armstrongs in Newcastle Upon Tyne, its launch in July 1964, and the increased involvement of personnel during the pre-commissioning phase. Commissioned in October 1966, the event was marked by a speech from Lady Brecon and the formal formation of the ship’s company, initiating the active service phase for HMS Glamorgan. Early on, strong ties were established between the ship and the Welsh county of Glamorgan, after which it was named.
