The British 18-pounder shell was a common artillery round used by the British Army during World War I. This particular shell is a form of trench art. Trench art is art made by soldiers, POWs, and civilians during WWI. This decorative shell has diameter of 84mm and weighed approximately 18 pounds, hence the name. The shell is decorated with the ‘Royal Flying Corps’ logo; the precursor to the Royal Air Force. At the rear of the shell is stamped and dated ‘1917’.

*Condition*

The shell is in good condition. In spite of its age, it is still very nicely preserved. The top ‘spire’ is not secured on. Please refer to the images as a part of our condition report.
