*British, Royal Berkshire Regiment, Brass Cap Badge, China Dragon, Slider Fitting*
A good original-style brass cap badge for the Royal Berkshire Regiment, featuring the regiment’s distinctive China Dragon above a scroll inscribed ROYAL BERKSHIRE. The reverse is fitted with a long brass slider for wear on a service dress cap, field service cap or beret.
Approx. Measurements – Height: 4.5 cm. Width: 4.4 cm.
The dragon badge derives from the old 49th Foot, awarded the China Dragon distinction for service in China during the First Opium War. The regiment later became the Princess Charlotte of Wales’s (Royal Berkshire Regiment) under the 1881 reforms, receiving the “Royal” title in 1885. Badges of this pattern were also often worn with the well-known red cloth backing associated with the regiment’s Brandywine tradition.
*Condition*
Good used condition with age-related tarnish, rubbing and small areas of verdigris, particularly to the reverse and recessed edges. Detail remains clear, the scroll lettering is legible, and the slider is present. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
