*British, Post-1953, Parachute Regiment Cap Badge, Queen’s Crown, J.R. Gaunt London, Brass Slider*

A British Parachute Regiment cap badge in brass, featuring the iconic winged parachute surmounted by the Queen’s Crown, the design worn by members of the regiment on the maroon beret. The badge is fitted with a brass slider attachment, stamped “J.R. GAUNT. LONDON”, one of the best-known manufacturers of British military insignia.

The design shows the stylised open parachute canopy with outstretched wings, symbolising airborne assault forces. Above the canopy sits the St Edward’s Crown (Queen’s Crown), indicating manufacture and issue during the reign of Queen Elizabeth II (1953–2022).

Approx. Measurements – Width: 6.5 cm. Height: 4.1 cm.

History Note:
The Parachute Regiment was formed in 1940 during the Second World War following the success of German airborne operations. British airborne forces quickly became an elite formation, most famously participating in operations such as Arnhem (Operation Market Garden) and numerous later airborne deployments. The distinctive winged parachute emblem has been the regiment’s central badge design since its creation. The maroon beret and this badge became powerful symbols of the regiment’s elite airborne status.

The Queen’s Crown version of the badge dates from 1953 onward, when Queen Elizabeth II ascended the throne and the crown design on British military insignia was updated from the earlier King’s Crown used during the reigns of George V and George VI.

The maker J.R. Gaunt & Son Ltd., London, was one of the principal suppliers of British military badges throughout the 20th century and produced large numbers of officially approved insignia for the British Army.
