A classic Sheffield-made Bowie-style knife by William Rodgers, England, likely dating to the mid-20th century. The blade is marked WILLIAM RODGERS / SHEFFIELD / ENGLAND on the ricasso – a respected cutlery mark long associated with quality knives and tools from the historic Sheffield trade.
This example features a clipped-point Bowie blade with a shallow fuller and measures approx. 15cm (6 inches), with an overall length of 26cm (just over 10 inches). The blade has a sharpened clip, showing wear, spotting and some dark age patina consistent with honest use and long-term storage.
The knife is constructed with a full tang and brass crossguard and pommel. The handle scales are made from richly grained hardwood with large brass pins and additional carved finger notches for improved grip – a feature more common on Rodgers knives intended for hunting or outdoor use. The spine and tang are clearly visible along the grip line, and the butt shows signs of age, including a fine drying crack along the scale edge (as shown in close-up).
It comes with a fitted black leather sheath, riveted and stitched, with belt slits and a retaining strap with press stud. The leather is well-worn and cracked in places, especially around the throat and lower rivets, but remains intact and functional. Some stitching loss and age-related surface hardening are present.
*Condition* Blade with stable spotting, age darkening, and signs of sharpening. The brass guard and pommel show surface wear and tarnishing. The wooden grip scales are tight but show surface wear. Sheath is complete with an aged patina but signs of wear with a small tear to the throat and some cracking, scuffs. The press-stud fastener is rusted but present.
