*British, Mid-20th Century, The Boys’ Brigade Brass Belt Buckle & Leather Belt – “Sure & Stedfast” Christian Youth Organisation Belt, Size 32*
An original vintage Boys’ Brigade brass belt buckle complete with its brown leather waist belt, retaining the classic two-piece interlocking clasp design associated with mid-20th century Boys’ Brigade uniforms. The circular brass buckle is deeply embossed with “THE BOYS’ BRIGADE” around the outer ring, while the detachable central boss displays the organisation’s famous anchor-and-cross emblem flanked by the letters “B B” and the motto “SURE & STEDFAST.”
The belt is constructed from thick brown leather with brass fittings and remains stamped “32” to the reverse, indicating the waist size. The buckle retains an attractive aged brass patina throughout, while the leather shows honest service wear and age consistent with long-term use.
The interlocking buckle pattern seen here was used for decades on parade and service uniforms and remains instantly recognisable to former Brigade members and collectors of youth organisation memorabilia.
Approx. Measurements – Belt size marked: 32. Width 3.8cm
History Note:
The Boys’ Brigade was founded in Glasgow in 1883 by Sir William Alexander Smith and is widely regarded as the world’s first uniformed voluntary youth organisation. Rooted in Christian teaching and discipline, the Brigade combined military-style drill, physical activity, and religious education for boys throughout Britain and the Commonwealth. Its emblem incorporates an anchor symbolising hope and steadfastness, derived from Hebrews 6:19: “Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast.”
