HMS E46 was a British E-class submarine built by Cammell Laird, launched on 4 April 1916, and commissioned in October 1916. She was sold in South Wales on 6 September 1922.
Like all post-E8 E-class submarines, E46 displaced 662 long tons surfaced and 807 long tons submerged. She measured 180 feet long with a 22 ft 8.5 in beam. Powered by two 800 hp diesel engines and two 420 hp electric motors, she reached speeds of 16 knots surfaced and 10 knots submerged. She had a range of 3,255 miles at 10 knots and could operate submerged for five hours at 5 knots.
E46 was armed with a 12-pounder QF gun and five 18-inch torpedo tubes (two bow, one stern, two amidships), carrying 10 torpedoes. Designed for depths of 100 feet, some E-class submarines exceeded 200 feet in service.
