*British, c1850, Victorian, Percussion Double Barrell Shotgun, By Charles Osborne, Obsolete Calibre*
A superb example of craftsmanship, this percussion double-barrel sporting shotgun , made by Charles Osborne of London. The lock plates feature intricate engraved scrolling, adorned with the name CHAS. OSBORNE and an image of a hunting dog. The stunning wood stock showcases bright flamed walnut with well-defined chequering. The steel barrels exhibit a rich brown finish, complemented by border and scroll engraved steel mounts. The wooden ramrod features a brass cupped end and a small steel corkscrew at the other end.
Charles Osborne established his own trading venture around 1845 in Lichfield Street, Birmingham, relocating to Whittall Street by 1855, where he operated until 1928 when his business was acquired by the gunmaker Skimin & Wood. He also ventured into business in the City of London in 1881, later moving near the Houses of Parliament in 1885. Throughout his career, Charles Osborne's dedication to excellence and innovation solidified his place as one of the leading gunmakers of his time. His legacy lives on through the enduring quality and craftsmanship of firearms bearing his name.

Excellent condition. Half cocks and cocks and dry-fires on right barrel. Left barrel cocks and dry-fires (no half cock position). Wonderful aged patina. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
