*British, c.1950s – Set of Four Ceramic “Flying Ducks” Wall Plaques, Falcon Ware / SylvaC – Pattern No. 1402 (4)*

A striking, matched set of four mid-century English ceramic wall plaques depicting mallard ducks in full flight. Each figure is hand-painted in rich vintage glazes of green, blue, brown and cream and finished with a high-gloss glaze. The reverse bears the impressed number “1402 – Made in England”, and two pieces likewise carry the printed mark Falcon Ware / Made in England / A, while one bears the SylvaC style marking. (SylvaC and Falcon Ware had a linked factory provenance in Staffordshire, England, where the “1402” model is documented in auction/collecting records.)

Each duck measures approximately 22.0 – 22.5 cm in length and 18.5 – 19.1 cm in height and is supplied with original integral hanging holes. The matching colour-tone and model number across all four strongly suggests this was originally sold as a set or as part of a graduated grouping.

Historical Note:
The classic “flying duck” motif became highly popular in British domestic design from the late 1940s into the 1960s, influenced by Art Deco geometric naturalism and by the post-war demand for affordable decorative ceramics. Falcons & SylvaC were among the Staffordshire firms producing this style, which now appeals to mid-century revival and kitsch décor collectors.

*Condition*
Overall very good vintage condition. The front surfaces display a bright glaze with fine, typical age-related crazing at the reverse and minor glaze wear; no major cracks or restoration noted (please see photographs as part of the condition report). Slight variation in size (c.22.3 cm, c.22 cm) and one piece bears a different factory mark (SylvaC) but because the model number and provenance align this variation is historically acceptable. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
