*British Army, 1994, SA80 Bayonet Frog – DPM IRR PLCE Webbing – Remploy Ltd*
A genuine British Army SA80 bayonet frog in DPM (Disruptive Pattern Material) woodland camouflage, manufactured in 1994 and designed for use with the L3A1 bayonet of the SA80 rifle system.
The frog forms part of the PLCE (Personal Load Carrying Equipment) webbing system widely issued to British forces from the late 1980s through the 2000s. Constructed from heavy-duty infra-red resistant (IRR) nylon webbing, the frog is intended to hold the bayonet scabbard securely while allowing quick attachment to a soldier’s belt or webbing.
The front retains the press-stud securing tabs, marked “ONE WAY”, while the top incorporates the typical plastic quick-release webbing fitting used to attach the frog to PLCE belts or equipment.
The internal lining includes a stiffened protective insert designed to prevent the bayonet scabbard from damaging the fabric during field use.
The original stitched label reads:

Remploy Ltd was a British government-supported manufacturer that produced large quantities of military clothing and equipment under contract.
History Note:
With the adoption of the SA80 rifle family (L85 series) in the mid-1980s, new webbing equipment was developed to complement the system. The PLCE webbing set, introduced around 1988, replaced the earlier 1958 Pattern webbing and was designed to be more modular, durable, and compatible with modern infantry equipment.
The bayonet frog was designed specifically to carry the L3A1 bayonet scabbard, which differs from earlier British bayonet systems. The frog allowed soldiers to mount the bayonet securely on their belt kit while maintaining accessibility in combat conditions.
DPM IRR equipment such as this example was standard issue throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, seeing service in numerous deployments including Northern Ireland, the Balkans, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
