*British Army, 1947 Pattern Royal Artillery Battle Dress Blouse, Size 7, Marked with a Broad Arrow WD, Dated 1948, Made by G&S BAQR, Rank Major*

Label: Battledress, Blouse 1947 Pattern, Cat No Ger/Co 8477, Size 7, Breast 35"-36", HT 5'7"-5'8", G&S. BAOR, 1948, W Broad Arrow D.

This 1947 pattern battledress blouse replaced the short-lived 1946 version and was itself soon superseded by the 1949 pattern, making it a rare item today. It features cloth shoulder titles for the Royal Artillery and Crown shoulder pips for the rank of Major. The original label inside indicates Size 7 and a 1948 issue date, along with the War Department Broad Arrow mark.

The blouse has a convertible collar that can be worn open with a shirt and tie or closed at the neck with a hook and eye, reflecting an authorized change following the widespread practice of tailoring wartime battledress for a more formal appearance. This pattern also reintroduced pleated pockets, which had been removed during the war to save material, and added a fly front covering the buttons, except on the pocket flaps. The sleeves were cut in a slightly fuller style compared to earlier versions.
