This is a WW1 Hotchkiss Round. The pointed steel projectile has a standard Hotchkiss brass driving band design of the period and is threaded in the base for a base fuse. Later driving bands were narrower and were made of copper.
This was made from 1886 under licence by the Elswick Ordnance Company by Elswick Ordnance Company, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. Elswick Ordnance was a major arms developer before and during World War I. The ordnance and ammunition it manufactured for the British Government were stamped EOC, while guns made for export were usually marked "W.G. Armstrong".
