A vintage presentation wall plaque for the 5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards, mounted on a shaped hardwood backboard measuring approximately 14.7 cm x 17.6 cm. The central shield, about 9 cm x 11 cm, is painted deep green and edged with a gilt border. In relief is the regimental device: the Inniskilling castle with “INNISKILLING” scroll above, set before the intertwined cipher of the regiment. A separate gilt ribbon below is titled “5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards”.
The reverse retains the original circular brass hanging plate stamped “MADE IN BRITAIN”, set into the board for flush wall mounting.
Historical Note:
Formed in 1922 by the amalgamation of the 5th (Princess Charlotte of Wales’s) Dragoon Guards and the 6th (Inniskilling) Dragoons, the 5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards continued the heavy cavalry traditions of both antecedent regiments into the age of mechanised warfare. The regiment served with distinction in the Second World War and throughout the Cold War period. Regimental plaques of this type were widely exchanged between units, messes and individual officers from the mid-20th century, and today are collected as tangible reminders of famous cavalry and armoured regiments.
