The design features a distinctive fan-shaped arrangement of dividers radiating from a moulded and carved rear panel, with a shaped carry handle and stepped compartments for letters and papers of varying size. The underside retains its original green baize lining.

This elegant and functional piece would have graced a late 19th-century writing desk or hall table, combining refinement with practical organisation for household or business correspondence.

Measurements: Height: 17 cm. Base: 27.3 cm Ă— 23.4 cm

Historical Note:
Letter racks of this form became popular in Victorian Britain during the rise of the “cult of correspondence,” when written communication and calling cards were an essential part of domestic and professional life. High-quality examples such as this were often made from mahogany or rosewood and were both functional and decorative additions to a well-appointed writing desk.

*Condition*
Excellent antique condition with a rich original patina. Minor surface wear consistent with age and use; the baize base shows light fading and small areas of wear. No structural damage or restoration noted. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
